February 10 - Light Snow

Light Snow, originally uploaded by wasabi_peas.

Saw this on the way home from grocery shopping, and went back out to capture. Used the 50/1.4 and shot at 7.1 to try and get the "landscape sweet spot". I raised the tripod as much as possible to drop down the flare from the lamp, but couldn't eliminate it. Probably should have tried shooting without the UV filter?

  1. Jesse, this is an elegant shot. Things I think are so nice is the restraint of color, the quick fall-off of the light, the contrast in texture (between the twigs/shrubs and the light flare that I actually like). You're doing amazing work, and you have a great commitment to noticing opportunities and going back for them.

Good to learn about the landscape sweet spot. The low DOF now possible with my 50/1.4 has been such a novelty, but looking back I can see several shots that would have been better with greater DOF. Will keep in mind.

I'm learning so much from watching your postings!
